As your english is pretty "natural", it's an easy way to learn the "non scolar language".

It reminds me of a book I've read when I was younger, in which a girl was living in the US but had scheduled her life according to the Japanese time zone. So she was basically living on her own, sleeping while everyone was working etc

I would have gone with "fabric" as well. There is no exact word for "tissu" as in "quelque chose qui a été tissé" "le produit du tissage" but fabric comes very close and actually works for most situations.

I'd poke @Merry June too, she studied english and I didn't! I ain't that good at translating stuff.

Fabric probably means "something that has been made" from the french word "fabriquer" and over time it specialized to mean "tissu" specifically, for some reason (I guess it's because of industrialization).

But don't quote me on that !
