Hi girls! I comeback here because i really need to speak English.
In 9th May, i'll be in holdays for so many month, it'll be boring i guess because this mean i don't return to school until september... My god.. Almost 5 month without doing anything in English or German , except July because I'll go in Germany in another university of mine for one month with a friend.

I learn English and I have a problem with a term "folks" ? A madz for explain me, because it's really an usual word and I don't understand with use (in professionnal area it's possible ? Or just in family context ?).

@Alexandra David-Néel folks can mean "family" or "friend" or "people" (like someone talking about their village, their gonna call the inhabitants folks), and it implies some kind of friendship/personal relationship. But you can't use that word in a professional context, that's a familiar word (not a bad one like fuck or shit or whatever insult you can think of), it's just not professional when you call your coworkers or boss your "folks".

Hi Alexandra!

"folks" depends in which context it's used. For instance if people "Goodbye folks, see you later!" it means "salut les gens, a plus tard!".
When someone talks about "their folks" it means their family, or friends, their entourage.

Generally "folk" means people (as in "peuple"). It has the same roots as "folklore".

"Guys" is a bit more familiar than "folks", it's very informal, and you can't use "guys" to talk about peoples ("peuples" not "personnes/gens")

@Alexandra David-Néel For what I know and i might not be completly aware of all the meanings "Folks" means" people". It can be use more specifically for "ordinary people". It can also refers to your family or your parents but it's a bit informal this time.

I do believe, but you might want to check this one, that in America it's more use as an informal word for "everyone!", "Friends!" "dudes!" in french: " tout le monde!" , "Les ami.e.s", "les gars les filles!" Like in: "Hey folks! How's everyone doing?".
